Technical Data Sheet
CHARACTERISTICS
  • TypeStill dry red wine DOC
  • Location Alto Adige
  • Grapes 100% Pinot Nero
  • Sensations Schweizer Pinot Noir presents itself with a ruby red colour that varies from soft to intense depending on the vintage. Its bouquet seduces with complex, layered aromas of fruit such as ripe berries and cherries, spicy notes of pepper and leather. These aromas and sensations are also reflected on the palate. In the mouth, the wine enthuses with its enveloping tannins, with elegance and finesse, and with its harmonious structure and body that make it very long-lived.
  • Vinification The grapes are vinified in open tanks in which the fermenting must comes into contact with the skins through frequent pumping over and punching down. Thanks to these techniques, the colouring substances and aromas contained in the skins are extracted and pass into the wine. At the end of fermentation, the wine then passes from steel into barriques in which malolactic fermentation takes place and then matures for a period of 12 months. Following bottling, the wine matures for approximately one year in the bottle.

Pinot Nero "Schweizer" Alto Adige DOC 2020
  • For many, enthusiasts and experts alike, this Pinot Noir Schweizer represents a kind of benchmark, that is, a reference point for assessing the quality of mountain Pinot Noirs, no matter where in the world they come from. The grapes, in this case, only come from areas carefully chosen for their microclimate. Vineyards that, over the years, have proven to be ideal for the production of this grape variety. Individual vineyards are located at altitudes varying between 350 and 700 metres and include a great diversity of soils. The plantings, with planting densities of up to 12,500 vines per hectare, guarantee low yields and high quality. Vinification takes place in open tanks, where the fermenting must comes into contact with the skins through frequent pumping over and punching down. Thanks to these techniques, the colouring substances and aromas contained in the skins are extracted and pass into the wine. At the end of fermentation, the wine then passes from steel into barriques, where malolactic fermentation takes place and where it then matures for a period of approximately 12 months. Then, after bottling, the wine matures further for about a year in the bottle. Schweizer Pinot Noir presents itself in the glass with a beautiful ruby red colour that varies from soft to intense depending on the vintage. The nose reveals a seductive bouquet with complex fruit aromas such as ripe berries and cherries, followed by spicy notes of pepper and leather. These aromas and sensations also find perfect correspondence in the mouth, where the wine offers pleasant surprises, thanks to its enveloping tannin and great elegance and finesse. Its structure and harmonious body make this mountain red wine extremely long-lived. Schweizer Pinot Noir is perfect with game, braised meats, red meats and mature cheeses.

There is a name that every good wine lover in Italy identifies with the Pinot Noir grape variety. It is that of Franz Haas, a winemaker in South Tyrol. Franz Haas, however, is not just a winery and not just a brand. Franz Haas, in fact, is first and foremost a man and his family who have been producing wine for seven generations and who put their whole philosophy of life into their bottles: a continuous and tireless search for perfection. The Franz Haas winery was founded in 1880 and has been handed down for seven generations to the eldest son of the family, who has the honour and responsibility of always bearing the same name, Franz (the current head of the winery is Franz VII, while Franz VIII will be his natural heir). In the vineyard, the vines are managed with absolute respect for the environment, using only organic substances to favour the natural process of cultivation and fertilisation. In 1999, with the first signs of the recent climate change, in order not to compromise on quality, several hectares were leased at altitude and in 2000 clones more suited to the new conditions were planted. Today, the company's vineyards reach over 1100 metres above sea level and are currently among the highest in South Tyrol. Cultivating at these altitudes is more difficult and strenuous, but the wines that emerge from these lands are distinguished by very special characteristics that make them unique. And millions of wine lovers around the world are grateful for the effort!
