Domaine de Bellene offers an interesting Burgundian Pinot Noir "Vieilles Vignes," that is, made from grapes harvested from old vineyards. In these cases, production is very limited, even more so than it normally is in a region aimed at absolute quality like Burgundy. The quality of the grapes in compensation is really very high and the result, this Maison Dieu, is undoubtedly an excellent starting point for those who want to experience the quality of the best French reds. Slow fermentation at high temperature, the must/wine is tasted daily to check the progress of yeast work. At the end of processing, and after racking, the wine rests for more than a year on its lees and 6 months in French oak barrels. Intense ruby red, the nose reveals hints of berries, cherry and strawberry, with distinct floral hints of mulberry and violet and hints of white pepper. Delicate notes of tobacco and porcini mushrooms can then be detected on the finish. In the mouth, however, it reveals a surprisingly pleasant and multifaceted structure, as well as excellent and complex roundness. A wine of beautiful personality, it proves particularly versatile at the table. Excellent with salads, chicken and beef. With a bit of imagination and the pleasure of unusual challenges, this red Burgundy can also be offered with fish.
