Around the year 2000, a number of wineries began experimenting with the sparkling of grape varieties in the region and the results became progressively more and more convincing. It was discovered that grape varieties such as Greco Bianco, Magliocco and Gaglioppo are able to provide excellent sparkling wines, both in terms of quality and price. Until 2019, the main method of producing bubbles in Calabria was the 'Metodo Classico'. In that year, sparkling wines made with the 'ancestral method' also appeared on the Calabrian market for the first time.
