The quintessence of authentic Sardinia. We are in Arzachena, in the heart of Gallura. This territory is famous worldwide for the crystal-clear waters of the Costa Smeralda, yet it hides an ancient and deeply rooted agricultural and winemaking heritage. The vineyards here are planted on soils derived from decomposed granite, poor soils that force the vines to give their very best in terms of concentration and character. The vineyards breathe clean, salty air, protected by the surrounding hills and blessed by temperature variations that preserve the noblest aromas of the grapes. Made from 100% Cannonau, this grape variety is the pride of local winegrowers. At Vigne Surrau it expresses its warm, deep and velvety soul to the fullest. After a careful manual selection, the grapes are destemmed and crushed. The must is then transferred into medium-sized, untoasted Slavonian oak fermenters. Alcoholic fermentation lasts around 15 days at controlled temperatures. Maceration continues with frequent pump-overs and is extended after fermentation for a further 15 to 20 days under a submerged cap, extracting only the noblest tannins. Malolactic fermentation follows, and the wine ages in the same oak vats for at least 12 months. It then spends a minimum of 6 months in small concrete tanks before bottling. In the glass it displays a proud and intense ruby-red colour. On the nose, clear notes of ripe red fruit emerge, particularly sour cherry, enriched by hints of black pepper and characteristic Mediterranean scrub aromas. On the palate it is full, enveloping and deep. The tannic texture is velvety and glides across the palate with precision. The finish is exceptionally long and perfectly consistent with the aromas perceived on the nose. At the table it is perfect with traditional Sardinian roast suckling pig or a rich wild boar stew.

Driving along the roads connecting Arzachena and Porto Cervo, it is impossible not to notice the winery. The Vigne Surrau estate is a true architectural masterpiece: an elegant combination of wood, glass and local stone blending seamlessly into the surrounding hills. Designed according to sustainability and energy-efficiency principles, it is not only a technologically advanced production facility but also a cultural space. Between stainless-steel tanks and the underground barrel cellar, visitors can find art exhibitions, photography displays and conferences. The estate vineyards are rooted in sandy soils formed by the millennia-long decomposition of granite.
