Rupis is the locality, near San Floriano del Collio, where the family runs the vineyard from which the Chardonnay grapes used to make this wine come. We are in Collio and the white grapes are the absolute protagonists. The processing of this wine begins with careful harvesting by hand and vinification in steel at a controlled temperature. The result is a wine characterised by a brilliant straw yellow colour with faint golden reflections. On the nose it has a delicate and elegant bouquet, with a hint of citrus fruit and an obvious hint of wild flowers. In the mouth it is above all fresh, full-bodied, elegant and mineral. It goes well with delicate dishes such as risottos, vegetable soups or fish with a simple taste.
San Floriano del Collio is one of those hidden corners of Friuli that bring serenity to those fortunate enough to know it. A magnificent natural landscape, where vineyards alternate with cherry trees and acacia woods. A borderland, Slovenia is only a few kilometres away as the crow flies. It was in this place that a young couple started their business in 1972. Mariano and Loredana planted their first vineyard, destined over the course of years to become the cornerstone of what is now a beautiful family business with around 30 hectares of vineyards in the Collio and Friuli Isonzo DOC areas. Today the two parents are joined by their children Walter and Luana. Most of the wines produced, as tradition dictates, are the offspring of white grape varieties, grown in vineyards at an altitude of between 150 and 250 metres above sea level. The Friuli Isonzo vineyards, on the other hand, are located in the flat area to the left of the river. While modern oenological practices are de rigueur in the cellar, the quality of Ascevi Luwa wines originates in the countryside. Because that is where wine is born. And good country makes good wine.
