Technical Data Sheet
CHARACTERISTICS
  • TypeRosso Fermo DOC
  • Location Tuscany
  • Grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
  • Sensations COLOUR: Purple red with violet reflections. BOUQUET: Expressive and very fine bouquet, broad, with hints of cherry and aromas of undergrowth, balsamic herbs and rosemary. FLAVOUR: Very fine and intense, with fresh acidity supported by firm tannins. Balanced and long.
  • Vinification Grapes are selected using a sorting table to eliminate impurities and any imperfections. Soft pressing and gentle destemming of the grapes using suitable machinery so as not to break the integrity of the berries and avoid excessive release of tannins. Alcoholic fermentation (entirely spontaneous and without the addition of external yeasts) was completed in mid-October and took place regularly at a maximum temperature of 26-27 °C. Frequent delestages and open-air pumping over allowed excellent aromatic extraction and freshness in terms of must acidity. Malolactic fermentation, (always without inoculation), carried out in steel, was completed regularly at the end of November thanks to the reduced outside temperatures. In early December, after frequent racking to clean the musts, the wine was put into barriques from the first ten days of December 2019.
  • Alcoholic strength 14% vol
  • Allergens Contains sulphites

    Sassicaia Bolgheri DOC Magnum 2020
  • The name of Tenuta San Guido is intimately linked to the origins of the most famous of Italian wines, considered one of the best in the world. Sassicaia. The estate is named after San Guido della Gherardesca, who lived in the 13th century. Its total surface area is approximately 2500 hectares, ninety of which are planted with vines. Of these, 75 hectares are dedicated exclusively to the production of Sassicaia. An ad hoc disciplinary has been written for him, for which the Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC production area is limited to the Sassicaia estate only, and that the blend consists of a minimum of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This 2019 edition, in particular, is composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. It is made from a soft pressing of the grapes followed by fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, without the addition of external yeasts, and with an average maceration of around 9-12 days for both varieties. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, also in steel, and a long period of maturation in partly new and partly used French oak barriques. The blending of the masses of the two base wines takes place only a few weeks before bottling and the final period of ageing in glass. This reveals a wine characterised by a beautiful red-purple colour with violet reflections. On the nose, the bouquet is very intense and persistent. Fine, broad, with floral hints and aromas of undergrowth, but also delicately spicy. In the mouth it is persistent and intense. Pleasantly tannic, it reveals a nice body and a perfect balance of all its components. A fine and elegant wine, it is the ideal companion for a lunch or dinner of grilled meats and traditional Tuscan dishes. A true pleasure for few.

One cannot think of the village of Bolgheri without referring to the work of Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and the legendary Tenuta San Guido. Before him, in fact, even on the coast not far from Livorno, the grapes cultivated were those typical of the region, with Sangiovese above all. Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, however, had an intuition and was the first to produce a Bordeaux wine, hence based on Cabernet, on Italian soil. He was convinced, and with hindsight we can say he was right, that the Bolgheri area bore a clear resemblance to the Graves area. Thus, back in 1968, Sassicaia was born. And it was an immediate success. The rest is history.
