"Huck am Bach" Santa Maddalena Classico Alto Adige DOC Magnum 2022

But how good are the fresh reds of Alto Adige? Those wines characterised by a clean and elegant profile. Wines that are reminiscent of the mountains and perfect to accompany many of the region's typical dishes. Like this Huck am Bach, Santa Maddalena Classico, Alto Adige DOC, which is made from a blend of grapes typical of the area: 85% Schiava, 15% Lagrein. All the grapes used come from vineyards located between 250 and 500 metres above sea level, on the hillsides of 'St. Magdalene', above Bolzano. Harvesting is rather late, beginning in mid-October. The carefully selected grapes are brought to the winery and vinified in the traditional way. Then, after racking, the wine matures in large oak barrels for a few months before being bottled to continue its maturation in glass. Intense ruby red in colour, on the nose this wine presents a pleasantly floral bouquet, with notes of violets and roses. Then fruity aromas of cherry and raspberry, and a typical scent of bitter almond and marzipan. In the mouth it is full, velvety and pleasantly persistent. A simple but gratifying red, perfect to accompany tasty, typical dishes such as carne salada or pasta with game ragout. Also perfect with a nice slice of sweetly smoked speck.
