"Taber" Lagrein Alto Adige DOC Riserva Magnum 2021

Cultivated in the vineyards surrounding Bolzano, Lagrein is one of South Tyrol's most representative red grape varieties. An indigenous variety, it is used to produce wines of great character. The considerable temperature fluctuations between day and night, together with the loose, sandy alluvial soils, result in a complex wine with intense colours and typical freshness. For the Lagrein Riserva Taber, Cantina Bolzano uses only carefully selected grapes. An undisputed icon of quality, this red wine is made from grapes harvested in vineyards over 80 years old, in Gries/Bolzano at 250 metres above sea level. Harvesting begins at the end of September and continues until mid-October. Vinification takes place in wooden barrels, followed by an ageing phase lasting approximately one year. In this case, French barriques and large barrels are used. What is obtained is a wine characterised by an impenetrable dark garnet red colour. The nose is fruity, with notes of ripe cherries and berries, hints of violets, eucalyptus and humus, as well as a spiciness of cocoa and vanilla. In the mouth it is intense and persistent, with an elegant freshness and noble, soft tannins. On the table it goes well with red meats, game and mature cheeses. A wine with great ageing potential.
