    Frappato Terre Siciliane IGT 2024
    • The typical freshness and fragrance of the native Frappato grape variety, grown in the Menfi area of Sicily, are found in this 100% red wine from Mandrarossa. This wine stands out for its lightness and versatility, making it suitable for different occasions and food pairings. Menfi, located on the south-western coast of Sicily, offers an ideal terroir for growing Frappato. Here, the vineyards are located at an altitude of about 250 metres above sea level, with south and west exposure. The soils are sandy and clayey, while the climate is Mediterranean, characterised by hot, breezy summers. This fortunate combination of characteristics promotes optimal ripening of the grapes, giving the wine a balanced structure and intense aromas. Frappato, for its part, is known for producing light, fruity and aromatic wines. It is often blended with Nero d'Avola to produce Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, but when used on its own, as in this case, it best expresses its varietal characteristics. The harvest begins in the first week of September. The grapes are harvested by hand and, once in the winery, are destemmed and crushed. This is followed by maceration and fermentation at a controlled temperature and rapid maturation in stainless steel tanks, which preserves the freshness and fruity aromas typical of Frappato. Ruby red in colour with violet hues, the nose reveals an intense bouquet of morello cherry, black cherry, small red fruits and sweet spices. On the palate, it is savoury, with good persistence, a light structure and soft tannins. Its freshness makes it particularly pleasant and easy to drink. Designed to be drunk young, its lightness and versatility make it a good accompaniment to fish soups, grilled chicken and roast tuna. Also worth trying with vegetable dishes and cheese omelettes.

Mandrarossa is a wine project that began in 1999 in the heart of south-western Sicily, in Menfi. It is the result of over twenty years of research into the terroir to identify the best combinations of grape varieties and territory. Founded by the Cantine Settesoli cooperative, Mandrarossa represents an innovative Sicily that breaks with stereotypes, with the aim of producing high-quality wines through sustainable practices and oenological experimentation. Located in the Puccia district south of Menfi, it is an example of architecture integrated into the landscape. The 700-square-metre building, spread over several levels and largely underground, houses a barrel cellar, two tasting rooms, a wine shop and a panoramic terrace overlooking the sea. Designed to blend in with its surroundings, the winery uses natural materials and colours that reflect the tones of the territory, such as wood and ochre pigments. The roof garden, covered with typical Mediterranean scrub, acts as a natural insulator, helping to maintain ideal temperatures and humidity levels for ageing wines. The energy required is provided by a photovoltaic system, underlining the company's commitment to environmental sustainability. The company also stands out for its adoption of organic farming practices. Since 2021, it has been offering wines made from 100% organic grapes, sourced from vineyards cultivated without the use of synthetic products or GMOs, promoting biodiversity and the well-being of the ecosystem.
