    Langhe DOC Dolcetto 2022
  • The one offered here by the Maccagno family winery is a fine red from the territory. Langhe DOC Dolcetto is produced from grapes harvested in the estate's vineyards with excellent southern exposure and an altitude of 220 metres above sea level. An ideal position, characterised by a favourable temperature range between day and night. After the harvest, the grapes are brought to the cellar to be sent to processing soon. We start by crushing and destemming the grapes to obtain the must. This is subjected to alcoholic fermentation, with a maceration period of about 8 days. Once the transformation is over, the wine is drawn off and a long ageing phase of 5 or 6 months begins, always in steel tanks. This is followed by bottling and further ageing for a few months before marketing. What is obtained is a wine characterised by a beautiful, lively ruby colour with violet reflections. The nose is pleasantly fruity, with immediate hints of ripe red fruit. In the mouth, however, it reveals itself to be a wine of medium structure, soft and with a pleasantly almondy finish. Served at the right temperature, never above 18°, this Dolcetto is simply ideal to accompany cured meats, white meats and medium-aged cheeses.

    Piedmontese by origin, Livio and Corrado Maccagno run the small winery in Canale, the beating heart of the Roero, with passion. Recently refurbished, the Maccagno winery processes grapes from the approximately 12 hectares of estate vineyards, most of which are cultivated on the San Michele hill, the most prestigious location in the village. In spite of its small size, the winery boasts an outstanding production that includes some of the region's most prestigious wines, including Arneis, Favorita, Nebbiolo, Barbera and Roero. The concepts of 'Sustainability' and 'Tradition' are intrinsic values of the Maccagno winery. In every operation, in fact, the utmost attention is paid to the environment, in order to protect a landscape that is the very basis of the quality of what is produced.
