    Dolcetto d'Alba DOC "Galluccio" 2021
  • Galluccio, Dolcetto d'Alba DOC proposed here by Cascina Boschetti, Azienda Agricola Gombo, is produced from the grapes of a farm vineyard located at about 300 metres above sea level, in the municipality of Novello, in the province of Cuneo. South-west exposure, to ensure good sunshine for the ripening grapes, the vines sink their roots into a soil rich in clay and limestone, with several layers of sand. Harvested by hand, with rigorous selection of the bunches, this Dolcetto is made using traditional methods, with fermentation at a controlled temperature and maceration on the skins for 5-6 days. No passage in wood is foreseen in this case, but a quick refinement in stainless steel tanks that continues until bottling. The result is a wine characterised by a beautiful ruby red colour with violet reflections. The nose is pleasantly surprising for its fresh and vinous bouquet. In the mouth, it reveals a dry taste, with moderate acidity and a slightly almondy finish. It is the wine of the Langhe tradition and as such should be paired with the territory. Excellent, for example, with classic meat agnolotti. But it is also fabulous as an accompaniment to cured meats and cheeses.

This time we are in a simply magical place. Cascina Boschetti, in fact, is located on the top of the hill of the same name that overlooks the roofs of the houses of Barolo and the castle of the Marchesi Falletti where, just so we don't forget, the wine of kings saw the light. From the farm there is a breathtaking 360° view of the Langa hills and the many castles that dot them. The Gomba family has owned this farmhouse since 1991, when Sergio, the fifth generation of a historic Piedmontese family, bought it in the summer, just in time for his first harvest a few months later. At the time, the property comprised just one hectare of land and the grapes were vinified in a cellar in La Morra. The first bottles, however, already had the logo of the farmhouse on the label: a house on the hill with three trees and the design of the rows. And they have not changed since then. In 1998 the hectares became 11, while in 2003 the project to build a new winery and bottling area began. And although in 2005 the number of hectares under vine had risen to around 20, Sergio Gomba was still not fully satisfied. He decided to buy another 4 hectares, this time in the Roero region, to produce the other typical varieties of the region. Today Sergio Gomba produces almost 200,000 bottles a year, of which at least 90,000 are Barolo. But at Cascina Boschetti they always keep their feet firmly on the ground, in full respect of the Piedmontese motto: "Esageruma nen", let's not exaggerate.
