Forget the coarse Barbera that was served in the village taverns. Forget about those rough, ungainly wines that can indelibly stain your tablecloth with a single drop. Today Barbera, the good one, is a wine of great pleasure and renewed nobility. A fine example is this Barbera d'Alba produced by the Roccasanta Winery. Pure Barbera grapes, harvested in a perfect state of ripeness and health and processed with care and attention at a controlled temperature, solely in steel tanks. Brilliant red in colour, of medium intensity, it amazes the nose with the fragrance of its bouquet. Delicate, typical, with clear notes of ripe red berry fruit, such as plum, blackberry, raspberry and blueberry. In the mouth it is pleasantly structured and full-bodied. Pleasantly fresh and tannic. A simple wine, but not trivial, capable of satisfactorily accompanying classic grilled meat or Piedmontese tajarin with mushrooms.
We are in the heart of the Langhe, one of the most popular areas for wine lovers from all over the world. More precisely, we are in Perletto, a small village on the right bank of the Bormida River, north of Cortemilia. Just about thirty kilometres from Alba, Acqui Terme and Cairo Montenotte. The Roccasanta estate is located here. A family business, of course, which has been making wine since 2006, although it has owned the Vigne since 1995. They preferred to wait until they were really ready and so, before dedicating themselves to production, they invested more than 10 years in renewing the plants and changing the vines grown. Today, however, the small company is a real gem, capable of producing excellent wines, vintage after vintage, deeply linked to their territory of origin. Merit of the soils, of the correct exposures, and above all of the deep respect for the raw material shown by the family in every process.
