Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Classico Superiore 2019
  • Amarone is a wine made for those who love to appear. Those who are not satisfied with a good bottle but seek only the best. But, it must be said, Amarone often runs the risk of being overdone. Difficult to match and too concentrated to be placed at the centre of a fine table setting. This is why many prefer a good Ripasso to Amarone for a convivial occasion. Like this one proposed by the historic winery in Marano di Valpolicella, which, by the way, is labelled as Classico, i.e. produced with grapes from the best area of Valpolicella, and Superiore, which identifies a wine of superior quality (and a slightly higher alcohol content than the standard). The Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Classico Superiore Collezione Pruviniano, offered here in a generous magnum version, is made from 60% Corvina, 15% Corvinone and Rondinella grapes and a mix of other authorised grapes for a total of 10%. In the glass it has a satisfying ruby red colour. The nose is characterised by a fine, fruity aroma. In the mouth, it is appropriately warm, thanks to the alcohol present and well integrated. Full-bodied, persistent, it has lively tannins and a pleasant aftertaste of dried fruit, nuts and toasted almonds. Serve it at room temperature but not too hot. The result will simply be guaranteed. A success!

A historical reality of Valpolicella. A social winery, that of Valpolicella Negrar, founded in August 1933 by 'six local gentlemen' who united in a society to defend the territory from speculative investments. The aim, now as then, is to reach the consumer directly with products bottled in full respect of the local winemaking tradition. A tradition that the winery's members cherish and safeguard with religious respect. Few people remember, but it is to the Negrar winery that we owe the birth of Amarone. That was in 1936. Today, the winery can count on around 600 hectares of vineyards, distributed in various areas of the Valpolicella Classica zone (but not only) and cultivated by around 230 members. It boasts an extensive production of wines that have won international critical acclaim, an environmental protection project and, above all, a line of high quality wines, the Domìni Veneti, which are exported all over the world. How much water has passed under the bridge since that distant August of 1933. And how much wine has been produced since then (and certainly drunk with satisfaction).
