"Poggio Paterno" Vermentino Colli di Luni DOC 2023
    • Poggio Paterno is a Vermentino, Colli di Luni DOC that perfectly represents the wines of its land. The Colli di Luni, a hilly area halfway between Liguria and Tuscany, is a land of fine wines that come from vineyards overlooking the sea, with clayey and siliceous soils that give the wine a pleasant mineral note and lively freshness. The area is characterised by terraced hills overlooking the Ligurian Sea, with a climate tempered by sea breezes. This environment gives Vermentino a beautiful structure and a pleasant acidity, as well as an elegant, almost salty flavour. The harvest is exclusively manual. It takes place in late August and early September, and the grapes are immediately subjected to a short maceration of about 2 hours. This is followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature, mainly in barriques, with bâtonnage, to enhance the wine's aromas and creaminess. The wine is aged in steel tanks and remains on the lees, acquiring complexity and structure without losing its freshness. Intense straw yellow in colour with golden reflections, the nose is pleasantly complex, with white fruit, white flowers and balsamic and herbaceous notes typical of the Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is dry and harmonious, fresh and full-bodied, savoury and mineral, with good persistence. Extremely versatile and pleasant, it pairs well with grilled or baked fish, shellfish, fresh cheeses and light meat dishes, such as vegetables and white meats in delicate sauces.

The Il Monticello winery, founded in 1982 by Pier Luigi Neri on the beautiful hills surrounding Sarzana, on the border between Liguria and Tuscany, represents a perfect combination of tradition, passion and innovation in winemaking. We are located within the Colli di Luni DOC appellation. The winery covers approximately 14 hectares of vineyards, planted with native grape varieties such as Vermentino, Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Pollera Nera and Massaretta. Pier Luigi Neri, a respected electronic engineer, started Il Monticello out of pure passion, starting from a 19th-century house surrounded by inherited vineyards. His sons Alessandro and Davide, after completing their studies and attracted to the world of wine from a young age, devoted themselves body and soul to the company, committing themselves to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. An interesting fact. The company was one of the first to introduce drones in viticulture to manage the vegetative state of the vines. Il Monticello is much more than a winery: it is a family history, a microcosm of sustainability and authenticity.
