Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute sarl Via di Nozzole 12 Greve in Chianti (FI)
Some people love the sea, others love the mountains. This is true for us, but it is also true for wine grapes. Vermentino, for example, is a grape variety that deeply loves being close to the sea. It is no coincidence that in Italy it is grown successfully almost exclusively along the coast. From Sardinia, where it also produces a prestigious DOCG wine, to Liguria and further south to Tuscany, where, on the coast between Livorno and Grosseto, it reaches peaks of true excellence. A fine example is this Vermentino Campo al Mare, produced by Giovanni and Ambrogio Folonari. The vineyards, generously kissed by the warm sun of central Italy for several months of the year, are located in a particularly favourable position. They enjoy a constant sea breeze that mitigates the heat and gives the grapes a pleasant salty note, while the sandy, well-drained soil ensures the right nourishment for the grapes, which can then reach maturity loaded with sugar and aromas. The result is a wine with a beautiful character, characterised by a lovely straw yellow colour. The nose reveals intense aromas of exotic fruits such as pineapple and mango. These are followed by notes of grapefruit and, above all, Mediterranean scrub. The palate is rich, smooth and persistent. An elegant wine that can accompany any meal.
The Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari estates are one of the most interesting wineries in Tuscany, with roots dating back to the 18th century. The Folonari family began their wine-making business at the end of the 1700s, when Lorenzo Folonari, originally from Valtellina, started an entrepreneurial tradition that would profoundly mark the history of Italian wine. In 2000, Ambrogio and his son Giovanni Folonari founded the Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute winery with the aim of enhancing the family's properties and producing high-quality wines. Today, the company comprises five estates located in some of the most renowned areas of Tuscany. Tenuta di Nozzole, located in the heart of Chianti Classico, Le Tenute del Cabreo, in Greve in Chianti, where Supertuscans such as Cabreo Il Borgo and La Pietra are produced. Then there is Tenuta La Fuga, in Montalcino, Campo al Mare in Bolgheri and Vigne in Porrona in the Tuscan Maremma. The Folonari family has always focused on innovation and quality. In recent years, the company has invested over €9 million in the construction of a new winery at Tenute del Cabreo, designed by architect Carlo Ludovico Poccianti.
