The origin is French, of course. But when a wine expert mentions Carménère, the first thought goes to Chilean wines. It is here, in fact, in the sunny valleys at the foot of the Andes, that the best Carménère grapes are grown. Grapes destined to give life to fresh, fragrant, medium-bodied and particularly fruity wines. A fine example is this Pionero Carménère from Viña Morandé. Deep and lively in colour, the nose recalls the most fragrant notes of red fruit and pepper. In the mouth it is delicately tannic, with a subtle spicy note to make it even more intriguing. It is the wine to put on the table when organising a nice barbecue with friends. Pleasant and easy to drink, one bottle is hardly enough.
When Pablo Morandé founded Viña Morandé in 1996, he did so with a great vision for the future. But above all, with the same audacity that led him, years earlier, to be the first person to plant vines in the Casablanca Valley. The desire for innovation is part of the DNA of the Chilean company, which was the first to experiment with innovative techniques both in the vineyard and in the winery. Constant research work aimed at producing wines that express the full potential of the different terroirs of Casablanca, Maipo and Maule. Already in 2004, for example, some plots were renewed, bringing the density per hectare to levels never before reached in Chile (more than 10,000 plants per hectare). In the cellar, on the other hand, they were among the first to reintroduce the ageing of wines in oak barrels and to experiment with the use of egg-shaped cement tanks for the fermentation phase. But that's not all. Viña Morandé is also one of the first wineries in Chile to have created high quality sparkling wines, capable of showing a complexity that is unusual in this category of Chilean wines. Nobody can stop them. That's for sure.
