Among the rows of Las Compuertas, where the sky of Mendoza seems almost to touch the snow-capped peaks of the Andes. Here lies Cittanina, a true act of love for Argentine land signed by footballer Lautaro Martínez and his wife Agustina Gandolfo, who have chosen to enhance the oldest winemaking heritage of their region of origin. The vineyard from which Malbec Pasion is born is a jewel dating back to 1930, having survived nearly a century of history. Here the soil is poor and the sun is intense, yet the altitude exceeding one thousand metres ensures essential night-time freshness. It is precisely this climatic combination that makes the terroir unique in the world. Pasion is a pure Malbec capable of balancing a significant structure with surprising drinkability. Not a heavy or overly muscular wine, but perfectly balanced in all its components. Care in the cellar is absolute. The grapes are harvested by hand in small 20 kg crates to prevent the weight from crushing the berries too early. Fermentation takes place in small concrete tanks using exclusively indigenous yeasts, those naturally present on the skins. To preserve the fragrance of the fruit, ageing is carefully managed: 60% of the mass rests in concrete, while only the remaining 40% is aged in French oak barriques. Bright red colour, enhanced by violet reflections, a true hallmark of Malbec, on the nose it is an explosion of crunchy red fruit such as cherries and plums. On the palate it reveals a medium body and a texture of very fine, almost velvety tannins. What stands out is the finish, where an elegant acidity emerges, making the sip long and never tiring. A wine that gets straight to the point, without unnecessary detours. At the table, Pasion calls out for meat. It is the perfect match with an Argentine asado or a grilled beef steak.
