    Douro DOC Reserva Tinto 2021
    • A valley where vineyards seem to defy gravity, climbing along schist terraces that reflect the warm sunlight. In this almost heroic landscape, Bulas Douro Reserva is born — a wine that captures the wild energy of one of the world’s oldest and most fascinating wine regions. We are in Cima Corgo, the heart of the Douro Valley. This area is renowned for its extreme climate conditions, with harsh winters and scorching summers that put the vines to the test. It is no coincidence that the Douro DOC denomination is one of Portugal’s most prestigious. Producing a “Reserva” here means complying with strict regulations that guarantee superior quality and remarkable ageing potential. Made from 100% Touriga Franca, a grape variety that thrives in warm climates and gives the wine its deep, vibrant ruby colour. Its true strength lies in its ability to preserve floral elegance even at higher alcohol levels. This is not a wine that seeks to impress through sheer power, but rather through the finesse of its tannins and the persistence of its aromas. The grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks using traditional foot-treading techniques, a method that allows gentle extraction of colour and polyphenols. Temperature is constantly controlled to preserve the fruit’s primary aromas. After a long maceration, the wine rests for 12 months in French oak barrels. And it is precisely this oak ageing that gives the wine its remarkable smoothness. In the glass, it reveals a bright ruby-red colour. On the nose, small red berries such as wild strawberries and blackcurrants emerge, followed by a distinctive violet note that adds elegance and refinement. On the palate, the experience is rich and enveloping. The acidity is lively and refreshing, while the perfectly integrated oak creates a smooth and elegant mouthfeel. The finish is long and fruity, leaving behind a sensation of balance and harmony.

There is a place where winemaking defies gravity: the Douro Valley in Portugal. In this breathtaking landscape of steep hills and vineyards that seem to plunge straight into the river, Bulas was born — a project that combines deep respect for centuries-old tradition with a fresh, dynamic vision that remains closely connected to the land. It is the result of the passion of the Bulas Cruz family, who took on the legacy of two historic estates (or “Quintas”): Quinta da Fozceira and Quinta da Costa de Baixo. These properties were not chosen by chance: they are located in a privileged position, precisely where the Ceira River meets the Douro. The vineyards are cultivated on the region’s characteristic terraces supported by dry-stone walls — such a unique landscape that it is protected by UNESCO. The family chose to invest in this natural heritage, preserving the bond with the past while focusing entirely on outstanding quality and sustainability. In a world of industrial production, Bulas has chosen the artisanal path. The harvest is carried out strictly by hand — a necessary choice due to the steep slopes, but also a deliberate one, allowing only the finest grape clusters to be selected. Moreover, Bulas is deeply committed to sustainability. The company’s goal is to protect the valley’s biodiversity, minimise chemical intervention and allow nature to express itself through native grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz.
