AZIENDA AGRICOLA VILLA SPARINA DI MASSIMO MOCCAGATTA. FRAZIONE MONTEROTONDO, 56 15066 GAVI (AL)
When a bottle on the shelf has a distinctive shape, it is impossible not to notice it. It is inevitable. This is the case with this Gavi del Comune di Gavi DOCG, produced by Villa Sparina. The beautiful Piedmontese winery, in fact, with the desire to stand out, wanted to create a bottle with a unique shape. An innovative project, developed with designer Giacomo Bersanetti, inspired by an ancient vase found during the renovation of the winery. For years, it has been the most recognisable symbol of Villa Sparina. This Gavi, first produced in 1974, is made from 100% Cortese grapes from the Municipality of Gavi, grown on the hills surrounding the winery, at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres above sea level. The vines in production have an average age of 30 years, which guarantees low yields and high fruit quality. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the quality of the fruit. The result is a wine characterised by a beautiful straw yellow colour with golden reflections. Aromas of white flowers and fresh fruit with hints of citrus. On the palate, it is appreciated for its full, rich, smooth and enveloping flavour, with noble aromatic notes derived from the complete ripening of the grapes. A wine of great character and personality that can be enjoyed as an aperitif, but also pairs well with fish or vegetable first and second courses. Try it with classic trofie al pesto. Pure pleasure!
Villa Sparina, a winery in Gavi, Piedmont, comprises 100 hectares of land, 70 of which are dedicated to the cultivation of Cortese, the native grape variety that gives life to Gavi di Gavi. The remaining hectares are planted with Barbera. For both Cortese and Barbera, the best crus are selected and vinified separately, giving life to the winery's two most representative wines. In addition to the winery, Villa Sparina also offers its visitors high-quality dining and charming hospitality. In 2021, Villa Sparina was named “European Winery of the Year” by the prestigious American magazine Wine Enthusiast.
