When the wisdom of “Old Vines” meets the energy of an untamed land. From this encounter comes the Tenacity Shiraz by Two Hands. We are in the heart of southern Australia, in a golden triangle that includes McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Langhorne Creek. Here the landscape is shaped by ancient soils and generous sunshine that bathes the vineyard rows for much of the year. The name “Tenacity” is dedicated to the pioneers who protected these historic vineyards when international trends seemed ready to sacrifice them in favour of more modern and easier varieties. Thanks to their determination, today we can pour into the glass a wine that is a true living piece of Australian wine history. A pure Shiraz, these “old vines” produce very few bunches, but they are incredibly rich in extract and natural sugars. After fermentation in small batches, the wine undergoes a prolonged ageing in oak barrels. The wood acts like a tailor crafting a made-to-measure suit, smoothing the tannins and adding layers of complexity ranging from sweet spices to vanilla, making the final structure harmonious and ready to drink. In the glass it stands out for its deep ruby red colour, almost impenetrable. On the nose, dark cherries and ripe plums appear first, followed by enticing notes of dark chocolate and sweet spices. On the palate the wine is full and fleshy, almost chewable. Black fruits burst with energy, accompanied by liquorice and black pepper that give rhythm to the sip. The texture is soft and enveloping, with silky tannins that glide effortlessly. The finish is warm and persistent, with an elegant hint of cedar inviting another sip. An ideal partner for a mixed grilled meat platter, it works wonderfully with barbecue pork ribs or very mature cheeses.
Today we are in the heart of Australia, where the French Syrah is better known as Shiraz. This is where Two Hands is based, a winery that has managed to secure an important place on the international wine scene in a relatively short time thanks to the quality of its wines. Founded in 1999 by Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz, the winery was created with a clear objective: to show the world the extraordinary potential of Australian Shiraz grown in the best terroirs of the continent. The company philosophy is simple: terroir, meaning the combination of geological, climatic and environmental characteristics of a territory, is the key element for bringing out the best qualities of the grape variety. For this reason, the winery owns vineyards in six different regions of Australia, each offering unique and irreplaceable conditions for grape growing. Among these, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley stand out, territories renowned for producing wines of outstanding quality. Each parcel is carefully tended by the teams of Two Hands growers, who work tirelessly to maximise the potential of every single vineyard plot. This meticulous approach allows every nuance of the grape variety to be expressed, offering wines that represent the perfect synthesis of their territory.
