    "Pactio" Rosso Toscana IGT 2022
    • A wine that feels like a pact between tradition and modernity. We are, of course, talking about Pactio by Tenuta Fertuna, a red that celebrates the meeting between the elegance of Sangiovese and the international character of great Bordeaux grape varieties. We are in Grilli, in the heart of the municipality of Gavorrano, an area where nature is powerful yet incredibly generous. Here, Tenuta Fertuna stands within a natural amphitheatre once shaped by the Etruscans, the first true masters of viticulture in Italy. The name "Pactio" comes from Latin and means “pact”. Toscana Rosso IGT, Pactio is a blend of Sangiovese with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot adds a velvety roundness that softens the edges of the Tuscan character, while Cabernet brings depth and a complex aromatic profile. A perfect interplay, where each grape contributes to creating a harmonious whole that never tires the palate. After harvest and temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, the wine rests for 4 months in French Allier oak tonneaux. The use of large 500-litre barrels, mostly new, helps stabilise the colour and enrich the aromatic profile without overpowering the fruit with excessive oak notes. A short but intense ageing, followed by a brief time in bottle, allowing the wine to settle and present itself in the glass at its best. Intense and bright ruby red, far from the usual heavy, dark red style. Here, freshness leads the way, with intriguing floral notes of linden and acacia intertwined with mineral hints and a touch of white fruit, almost challenging preconceptions about Maremma reds. On the palate, it opens with inviting notes of ripe cherry and a lively acidity that keeps the sip vibrant. The tannins are present yet well integrated, making it smooth and satisfying to drink. For a safe pairing, serve it with grilled beef with rosemary or a selection of semi-aged Tuscan pecorino cheeses.

In the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, between rolling hills and the Tyrrhenian Sea, lies Tenuta Fertuna. Founded in 1997, the estate was born from the meeting between the vision of the Meregalli Group – a historic wine distribution family from Monza – and the expertise of Ezio Rivella. We are in Gavorrano, in the province of Grosseto, in an area where nature is not just a backdrop, but the true protagonist. Here, among chestnut woods and Mediterranean scrub, human intervention has been remarkably delicate, shaping an amphitheatre of vineyards that seems almost naturally formed. A land rich in history, where the Etruscans, centuries ago, had already recognised its agricultural potential. Tenuta Fertuna embraces this millenary heritage, carrying it into the future with a style that blends international precision with Tuscan warmth. 50 hectares of vineyards, set within a much larger estate, benefit from an ideal microclimate. The proximity to the sea ensures constant breezes that soften the summer heat, while significant day-to-night temperature variations allow the grapes to develop intense aromas and vibrant freshness. Among the rows, alongside Tuscany’s flagship grape Sangiovese, there is also room for major international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. But Fertuna is not only about great reds. The estate has also shown innovation with surprisingly expressive white wines. Every production choice, from manual harvesting to the modern, energy-efficient winery, is guided by a deep respect for the environment.
