A bright, vivid white, showing sliced lemon and lime character with steely and minerally undertones. Medium-bodied, crisp and easy. Typical seaside vermentino. Drink now.
The only white wine offered by the Poggio Argentiera winery, this Vermentino, Toscana IGT, is made from grapes grown in the vineyards of Alberese, at sea level. It is well known that the Vermentino loves to have its roots immersed directly in the salt water of the Mediterranean (metaphorically speaking, of course). The soil here is predominantly sand and silt, perfect for ensuring that Vermentino ripens properly and develops the typical fresh aromas that characterise it. Picked by hand, the grapes are delivered to the winery in 20-kilo crates, perfect for preventing any crushing and sending the still-healthy bunches to the processing stage. Vinification is in stainless steel, with fermentation at a controlled temperature. Straw yellow with greenish reflections, this Tuscan white has a beautiful, inviting nose. In the mouth, then, it is particularly refreshing, thanks to the natural acidity, with the classic scents of the best Vermentino of the Tuscan coast. Excellent with fish, it is the wine to open when you start with fresh raw fish and continue with a spaghetti allo scoglio. The combination with the classic frittura di paranza (fried fish) is also delicious.
Poggio Argentiera was established in 1997. The starting point was the Adua farm, dating back to the early 1900s, the time of the Maremma land reclamation. The original 6 hectares were used to produce Morellino di Scansano and only later was the new wine cellar built. Then, in 2001, the property was expanded thanks to the purchase of another farm, Keeling, located in the hilly area, in the municipality of Scansano. Today the company can count on a total of 20 hectares of productive land included in the Morellino DOCG. The vineyards of Podere Adua are located at sea level, a few kilometres from the Tyrrhenian coast. The situation is quite different for the Keeling estate, which is at a higher altitude, in the hills. Since 2009, the entire estate has been run according to the dictates of organic farming, with the aim of seeking a balance between the plant and the surrounding environment.
