    Barbaresco DOCG 2020
  • Born from a careful selection of Nebbiolo grapes from different areas of the Barbaresco area. A label of great complexity and longevity. All the vineyards are family-owned, located in suitable areas on sun-kissed hillsides with a temperate microclimate that gives the fruit the ideal characteristics to create a wine of great structure and refinement. After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. The subsequent fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with maceration on the skins for about 30 days. This is followed by a 30-month maturation phase in French and Slavonian oak barrels, and partly in barriques, which completes the wine's aromatic profile and makes it soft and velvety. In the glass it has a beautiful intense garnet red colour with orange reflections. The nose opens with a complex and enveloping bouquet, with hints of ripe berries, sweet spices, vanilla, cocoa and liquorice. In the mouth, however, the wine is full and structured, with silky tannins and a lingering, harmonious finish. Its structure and great complexity make this red wine an ideal match for red meat dishes, game, mature cheeses and pasta dishes with meat sauce. A wine of great longevity, it is good today but can be kept in the cellar for over 20 years.

The Pio Cesare winery was founded in 1881 when Pio Cesare, Cesare by name and Pio by surname, a successful entrepreneur, was attracted by the idea of producing a small quantity of wines from the Barolo and Barbaresco hills for himself, his family, friends and customers. Year after year, five generations of the family have followed in ensuring the continuity of the quality and style of the wines. Today, the estate can count on around 70 hectares of vineyards, intentionally located in different communes of the DOCG areas. Plots with particularly fine exposures. The winery, on the other hand, is located in the historic centre of Alba and is built on the city's Roman walls, which are over two thousand years old.
