    "Rabajà" Barbaresco DOCG 2020
  • Barbaresco Riserva DOCG Rabajà. It is proposed by Castello di Verduno and is the son of a territory of priceless beauty. One of the most renowned and prestigious wine zones in Italy. The Rabajà vineyard, in particular, is situated 300 metres above sea level, where it enjoys an ideal south-westerly exposure that guarantees the vines the best climatic conditions. Here, in a small but very valuable plot, the oldest plants date back to 1974. The soil, rich in ‘Marne di Sant'Agata,’ is composed of sand, clay and limestone. This mix of elements gives the wine a solid structure, great elegance and intense aromas. Harvesting, carried out strictly by hand, initiates careful processing. Maceration can last up to 40 days and takes place in large wooden vats. After vinification, the wine then matures for a good 20 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, acquiring softness and an important bouquet. Finally, after bottling, Barbaresco Ragajà continues with a period of refinement in the bottle lasting a good 26 months. In the glass, Rabajà has a beautiful intense garnet red colour. The bouquet recalls notes of ripe raspberries and mineral nuances, with herbaceous hints. In the mouth it reveals a good structure, with firm tannins and extraordinary persistence. Elegance and balance. A wine designed for long ageing, it retains its potential for decades. Indeed, its complexity and aromatic richness are destined to evolve further with the passing of the years.

Castello di Verduno is located in the heart of the Piedmontese Langa. A historic winery, its roots go back as far as the 16th century, when the Cerrato family began construction of the castle. Over the centuries, it became a symbol of the region's viticulture, passed under the control of the Savoys and then King Carlo Alberto who, in 1838, entrusted it to the management of Carlo Staglieno, a pioneer of oenology. Today, the winery is managed by the Bianco family, which, with its long winemaking tradition in Barbaresco, has contributed to enhancing the prized Nebbiolo and Pelaverga grape varieties. The latter, in particular, is a rare and indigenous vine that grows exclusively in Verduno. And it was precisely at Castello di Verduno that they were the first to dedicate themselves, with courage, to the cultivation of this vine back in 1972. Even today, the winery's philosophy is based on tradition, with vinification that respects historical methods, such as fermentation in open vats and ageing in large oak barrels.
