    "Lucumone" Vermentino Maremma Toscana DOC 2023
  • It is called Lucumone and is one of the good products offered by Fattoria Mantellassi. Specifically, it is a pure Vermentino, Maremma Toscana DOC, named after the ancient Etruscan kings, the Lucumoni. A fresh and fruity white, it is a tribute to the history and culture of the Maremma. The grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed. Pressing is soft and fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in small steel tanks. After processing, the wine matures for two months in tanks before being bottled. In the glass it has a beautiful bright straw yellow colour. The nose has aromas of white-fleshed fruit, such as peach and melon, with floral and Mediterranean scrub notes. In the mouth it is fresh and savoury, with a good persistence. Perfect as an aperitif, Lucumone goes well with fish dishes, shellfish, vegetables and light first courses.

    Fattoria Mantellassi: Ambassadors of Morellino. What more can be added? "Fattoria Mantellassi," reads the company's website, "made a decisive contribution to the establishment of the Denominazione di Origine Controllata of Morellino di Scansano in 1978 and is considered one of the most prestigious producers. Hailing from Pistoia, the Mantellassi family moved to the Scansano and Magliano area around 1860 to ply their trade as 'potini' and 'grafters'. The planting of the first vineyards dates back to a century later, in 1960, when the first four hectares were established at Banditaccia. Today, the Fattoria can count on about one hundred hectares under vine on some of its many hillsides. Here Sangiovese is the absolute protagonist. And with it grape varieties such as Alicante, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Canaiolo Nero, Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo, and the 'whites' Vermentino and Sauvignon. The Mantellassi Winery, on the other hand, is located in a strategic position, a few kilometres from Magliano in Toscana and close to each of the vineyards. This makes it possible, during the harvest period, to optimise work and have the grapes in the cellar very quickly, preserving all their best characteristics.
