  • The one proposed here by Tenute Tondini is an interesting Vermentino di Gallura DOCG Superiore. It is called Katala and comes from the sunny hills of Sardinia. An oenological masterpiece that encapsulates the freshness of the sea, the minerality of the earth and the wisdom of a historic winery. A wine capable of conquering with its complexity and elegance. Gallura, the northernmost tip of Sardinia, is a land rich in history and winemaking tradition. Its climate is Mediterranean, characterised by mild winters and hot summers. These ideal conditions, combined with sea breezes and granite soils, create an ideal environment for the cultivation of Vermentino, which not surprisingly finds its best expression here. Vinification involves a fermentative maceration on the skins lasting about 6 days at a controlled temperature. This allows their intense colour and complex aromas to be extracted from the grapes. Intense straw yellow in colour with greenish highlights, the nose reveals an intense and persistent bouquet of ripe yellow fruit, such as peach and apricot. Then floral notes of broom and white flowers, hints of minerals and Mediterranean scrub. In the mouth, Katala reveals a well-balanced and 'fat' body, giving the wine a smooth and persistent sensation. The acidity is well balanced and gives the wine a pleasant freshness. The finish is persistent and pleasantly fruity. It goes well with grilled and baked fish dishes. Excellent with sea bass baked in salt or grilled swordfish.

    Located in the picturesque area of Alta Gallura, Tenute Tondini is a family-run winery that has stood out for the quality and originality of its wines since its foundation in 2004. The winery is located in San Leonardo, between the municipalities of Luras and Calangianus, an area known not only for the production of excellent Vermentino, but also for being the main Sardinian cork cultivation area. The Tondini family is passionately dedicated to cultivating the 20 hectares of vineyards. Vermentino occupies most of the vineyard area, reflecting the natural vocation of the land. However, the vineyards also host other native varieties such as Moscato, Cannonau and Caricagiola, as well as international ones such as Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and Dolcetto. The rows are located at altitudes between 300 and 400 metres above sea level, benefiting from excellent daily temperature ranges that enhance the aromatic characteristics of the grapes. The family's production philosophy is based on the principle that the quality of wine comes first and foremost from the vineyard. For this reason, yields per hectare are deliberately limited, guaranteeing greater concentration and intensity of flavour. In the cellar, then, the aim is to support and enhance what the land has to offer, using modern technology to preserve the aromatic heritage of the wines during fermentation. For ageing, the whites rest in steel, while the reds mature mainly in oak barrels, adding complexity and structure.
