The Bolgheri Rosso is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. There is a slightly sweet note here that comes across as wild cherry or boysenberry. You also get plum, rose hips and pretty layers of exotic spice. The bouquet is immediate and focused, and the wine delivers a mid-weight feel that is fresh and firm in terms of structure. This Bolgheri blend is aged in French barriques for up to 14 months. Some 80,000 bottles were produced, and this vintage offers terrific value.
This is a really beautiful red with aromas and flavors of blackcurrants, sweet tobacco, lightly toasted oak and cigar box. Very serious and well crafted. Blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. This needs three or four years of bottle age. Try after 2023.

A more streamlined vintage, the 2015 has more balance and an intense purple colour. Azienda Agricola Donna Olimpia 1898 was born from an intuition of Guido Folonari, heir to one of the historical Italian wine families, who in the early months of 2001 decided to develop an ambitious wine project. The name "Donna Olimpia 1898" derives from Olimpia Alliata, Lady of Biserno and wife of Gherardo dell' Gherardesca, who gave her name to the estate in 1898 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of their marriage. Today the estate has an area of about 60 hectares, all located in the DOC Bolgheri: a true corner of paradise, where there is no better nectar than this Donna Olimpia 1898.
