    "Terragrande" Rosso IGT Calabria 2021
  • Its sinuous bottle and elegant, minimalist label immediately suggest the noble nature of this Terragrande, a fine southern red made from a blend of 40% Calabrese grapes, with Merlot and Cabernet in equal parts to back it up. A sort of revised Bordeaux blend. A wine that Zagarella works with meticulousness and that has already been able to put itself on the map in national and international wine criticism. In this case, the individual varieties are vinified separately, with maceration of about 12/15 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, using Ganimede® technology that allows better extraction of colour and polyphenols. Then, after a brief refinement in wood, the blend is created. The end result is a wine characterised by a beautiful ruby red colour, still furrowed by evident violet reflections. On the nose, the aromas are intense and decisive. They recall the freshest fruity notes, with hints of small berries in clear evidence. In the mouth, then, one discovers a wine characterised by a good structure and a perfect balance of all its components. Soft and well ripe in its tannins, it prolongs the pleasure of drinking for several seconds. It is a wine that loudly demands a meat pairing. Braised and stewed meats, above all, but even a simple cut of beef can give great satisfaction.

    Reggio Calabria, a wonderful land of a thousand contradictions. It is here that the Zagarella Farm founds its roots. A historic family that has dedicated itself to the cultivation of its land since 1800, aiming for high quality production while respecting nature. Today, the farm covers about 70 hectares, 36 of which are cultivated with olive groves, 24 with chestnut woods and 10 with vineyards. Gentle hills exposed to the sun and overlooking the sea of the Strait of Messina. In the winery, they use the most advanced natural technologies, including the innovative Ganimede® system that allows the grapes to be treated without the aid of mechanical processes, maintaining their integrity and lowering vinification temperatures. These attentions result in wines that are easily recognisable for their marked extraction of varietal aromas and for their greater persistence in the glass.
