Imbottigliato all'origine dalla Cantina Castello di Torre in Pietra- Via di Torrimpietra 247 -00050 Torrimpietra (Roma)
A label that encapsulates the deep soul of the Eternal City. It is no coincidence that it bears the DOC Roma designation. This wine is a tribute to the history, territory and authentic character of Lazio. A wine that makes you feel at home, even if you are not from Rome. It is born in a land rich in history, among the rolling hills of tuff and breccia of Castello di Torre in Pietra, a stone's throw from the ancient Via Aurelia, where organic grapes are grown. The winery, founded by the enlightened Senator Luigi Albertini, has always had a clear vision: to produce wines that are a faithful reflection of their origin. The Roma DOC designation, established in 2011, was created to give identity and value to a historic wine-growing area, with the aim of promoting typical grape varieties. This is precisely the case here, where the blend, although undisclosed, is composed of a mixture of red grapes typical of central Italy, with each variety playing a specific role. After a manual harvest to select the best bunches, the grapes ferment in steel tanks. The wine then matures for a minimum of twelve months, partly in steel tanks to preserve its fruity freshness and partly in small French oak barrels. This mixed ageing allows the wine to acquire softness, complexity and an intriguing bouquet of aromas, without losing its liveliness. Deep ruby red in colour, with violet reflections, the nose immediately perceives intense and complex aromas. There are notes of ripe red fruit, such as black cherry and plum, followed by a spicy touch of black pepper and warmer hints of tobacco and cocoa. On the palate, it is soft and enveloping, with silky, well-integrated tannins. It is a wine of great balance, with a long, clean finish. It pairs beautifully with traditional Roman dishes.
The history of the Castello di Torre in Pietra winery dates back to the 16th century, when the estate belonged to the Peretti family of Pope Sixtus V. The historic cellar is carved out of tuff, a true masterpiece of natural engineering and the ideal place for wine production and storage. It is a cool, stable and perfectly insulated environment, where wine has been able to evolve for centuries, preserving the secrets of a precious art. The recent history of the estate began in 1926, when it was acquired by Senator Luigi Albertini, former editor of the Corriere della Sera newspaper. Forced to leave his post due to his opposition to fascism, Albertini devoted his energies to transforming the estate into a model farm. It was he, together with his heirs, who gave new impetus to the wine business, expanding the winery and planting new vineyards. The current owners are the children and grandchildren of his heirs. As far as production philosophy is concerned, the company has been applying the principles of organic farming since the early 2000s and is now officially certified. The aim is to produce a wine that is the most authentic and genuine expression of the territory, without resorting to pesticides, herbicides or chemical additives, and limiting the use of sulphur dioxide to a minimum.
