Imbottigliato dalla Cantina Bonelli, via Roma 86 - 29029 Rivergaro Val rebbia (PC)
In Piacenza, if you are a bit light-hearted and like to joke around, they call you “birichin”. And the name of this wine is by no means random. Cantine Bonelli's Gutturnio DOC Birichin is exactly that: a sparkling red that doesn't take itself too seriously. Cheerful and genuine, ready to make you smile with every sip. In other words, it is proof that a wine can be of great quality while remaining accessible and carefree, a true companion for snacks. We are in the beautiful Val Trebbia, where the tradition of sparkling wines is deeply rooted. The vineyards that give life to Birichin are tended with the same care and passion that Cantine Bonelli reserves for its most prestigious crus, because to make a good wine, whether still or sparkling, the raw material must be excellent. The second fermentation takes place in an autoclave, using the Charmat method, to capture and preserve the liveliness of the fruit. In the glass, Gutturnio Birichin boasts a beautiful lively ruby red colour, with a crown of fine, persistent bubbles. On the nose, it is a concentrate of freshness, with aromas of crisp red fruit. Finally, on the palate, it confirms its mischievous nature, with a light but not trivial sip. The finish is dry, clean and fresh, leaving a pleasant sensation of lightness. Gutturnio Birichin is at its best when young, fresh and full of energy. It pairs well with typical Piacenza cured meats, but can also be enjoyed with a nice plate of pumpkin tortelli or a simple pizza with buffalo mozzarella and tomato. Impossible to be disappointed.
Today we find ourselves in the beautiful Val Trebbia, a jewel nestled in the hills of Piacenza. A land rich in history, traditions and, above all, great wines. Here, since 1946, the Bonelli family has written its history, chapter after chapter, founding a winery that has become a benchmark for the entire region. Now passionately run by the third generation, the history of Cantine Bonelli began thanks to Anacleto Bonelli. With an intuition that was ahead of its time, Anacleto was able to embark on a path that we would now call “sustainability”, demonstrating a deep respect for nature and the resources of his territory. This commitment has never wavered, but rather has grown stronger over time, leading the company to pay scrupulous attention to the entire production chain. The goal is not to produce enormous quantities of wine, but to take care of every single bottle, ensuring that every sip tells the story of this valley and its native vines. The company's vineyards extend over unique, gravelly soil rich in rocky blocks of magmatic origin, which gives the wines an inimitable soul and character. A terroir that offers elegance and structure, distinctive elements found in all the historic labels.
