"S'Elegas" Nuragus di Cagliari DOC 2023
  • When you think of Sardinia, as well as the sea and 'porceddu', you inevitably end up remembering one of the region's many good wines. White or red, Sardinian wines are often the result of the vinification of grapes typical of the region. Varieties that express themselves best in the heart of the Mediterranean, thanks to a happy mix of environmental conditions. Among the typical vines, there is one that most people might not immediately remember. It is Nuragus, which, strangely enough, is still the most widely cultivated vine in Sardinia today, even if recent years have seen a gradual trend towards a reduction in the area under cultivation. Today, Nuragus is mainly found in the provinces of Cagliari and Oristano. A rustic vine that adapts easily to any terrain, it is a very generous grape. Argiolas harvests it in its Vigne Vecchie estate and proposes it in this DOC Nuragus di Cagliari version. Straw yellow in colour, the nose reveals a pleasantly fruity, fragrant and harmonious character. In the mouth it is full, soft and rich. The peculiar characteristic of this vine, however, is the pleasantly bitterish finish, a characteristic that is also found in this S'Elegas by Argiolas. Sea and land hors d'oeuvres, but also first courses of seafood cuisine or second courses of fish are its natural matches. Try it, in particular, with a nice roast sea bass with potatoes.

Serdiana, in the countryside of Sibiola, Sisini, Sa Tanca, Vigne Vecchie and Is Solinas. These are the five estates, covering a total of over 200 hectares, that the Argiolas family owns in southern Sardinia. These estates have been carefully chosen for their soil, exposure, climate and altitude. Each estate is different, as are the grapes that grow there and the wines that are created. The history of the Argiolas winery began in the late 1930s, when Antonio set up his new agricultural enterprise. Thanks to his commitment, for decades, the winery grew and established itself in Sardinia and beyond. This has also been the case with the arrival of his children and, today, his grandchildren. The third generation of the family. Preserving and keeping intact the wonderful Sardinian nature is an important responsibility. A daily commitment that guides the actions of the Argiolas family, every day, in every decision.
