    "Contacto" Alvarinho Vinho Verde 2025
    • Vinho Verde Contacto by Anselmo Mendes. A truly remarkable discovery! Don't let the name of the appellation mislead you: this is not a light, carefree white wine, but one that has quite literally rewritten the rules of Vinho Verde in Portugal, focusing on outstanding structure and remarkable elegance. But let's start from the beginning. We are in the homeland of Alvarinho, more precisely in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço, in the far north of the country. This area is a small geographical miracle. Protected by mountains that shield it from excessive Atlantic rainfall, it enjoys a unique continental microclimate where the marked temperature differences between day and night create wines of exceptional aromatic intensity. Anselmo Mendes grew up among these vineyards and has dedicated his life to proving that Minho is not simply the land of easy-drinking wines, but a terroir capable of standing alongside the world's greatest white wines. The name "Contacto" reveals the secret behind its production: a cold skin maceration that allows the juice to remain in contact with the grape skins, extracting a level of aromatic complexity and texture rarely found in this style of wine. Made exclusively from 100% Alvarinho, after the initial skin contact the wine ferments and ages for at least three months on its fine lees. During this period, regular bâtonnage gives the wine its silky texture and remarkable ageing potential. Every sip reflects meticulous work in the cellar, where technology serves only to preserve the purity of the fruit. On the nose it seduces with aromas of lime zest, white peach and a striking mineral, almost saline character. On the palate it is generous, structured and driven by a vibrant freshness that seems endless. The finish is long, pure and wonderfully refined, leaving behind a citrus trail that immediately invites another sip. Serve it with grilled king prawns, traditional Portuguese salt cod or baked turbot with potatoes. It is equally superb with an asparagus risotto. Taste it and you'll understand why.

If you say Vinho Verde, you say Anselmo Mendes. It may sound like an exaggeration, but it is not. It is no coincidence that the Portuguese winemaker is nicknamed "The Lord of Alvarinho". We are in the region of Monção and Melgaço, in the far north of Portugal, where the Minho River marks the border with Spain. Mendes took the tradition of Vinho Verde, studied it in depth and elevated it to levels of elegance that few believed possible. An internationally renowned winemaker with farming roots, Anselmo founded his winery in 1998 with one clear conviction: the Alvarinho grape has nothing to envy from the world's great white varieties. To prove it, he began experimenting with techniques that were almost revolutionary for the area at the time, such as fermentation in oak barrels and extended skin contact. The secret behind the quality of his wines lies in a unique geographical combination. The vineyards are located in a valley protected by mountains, creating a distinctive microclimate where rainfall is lower than on the coast and day-to-night temperature variation is significant. The predominantly granite soils give the wines the vibrant minerality and razor-sharp freshness that have become Anselmo Mendes' unmistakable signature. Whether you are looking for the perfect partner for an elegant seafood dinner or a characterful white wine to savour on its own, Anselmo Mendes is the name that guarantees an extraordinary experience defined by balance, savouriness and timeless elegance.
