    "La Barbacoa" Verdejo 2024
    • A wooden table outdoors. The aroma of fish sizzling over the embers and the sound of glasses clinking together. This wine is made precisely for moments like these. Its name is no coincidence, paying tribute to “barbacoa”, the Spanish ritual of grilling that brings friends and family together under the Galician sun. Bodegas Gallegas is a winery that for over sixty years has told the story of Atlantic Spain with a straightforward, no-frills approach. We are in a corner of the world where green never ends and the ocean sets the rhythm of the seasons. Galicia is famous for its generous rainfall and granite soils, a combination that gives white wines a vibrant acidity and aromatic purity that are hard to find elsewhere. The wine presented here is the classic white to always keep chilled, ready to be opened when an unexpected guest arrives or to elevate an impromptu dinner with friends. The absolute protagonist is Verdejo, a grape variety that is a true icon of Spanish viticulture. Often compared to Sauvignon Blanc for its aromatic exuberance, here it expresses its most sunny and immediate side. The grapes are carefully harvested and vinified exclusively in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This technical choice preserves the varietal aromas of the grapes, preventing wood from masking the natural fragrance of the fruit. In the glass, it immediately stands out for its bright straw yellow colour, with vivid greenish reflections that hint at its youth. On the nose, it is an explosion of freshness. Juicy white peach, crisp green apple and a lively hint of lemon are clearly recognisable, adding a vibrant energy. On the palate, it is balanced and lean, with a fresh acidity that cleanses the palate and invites another sip straight away. The finish is pleasantly persistent, with that typical almond note that is the hallmark of a well-made Verdejo. A wine made to be enjoyed young, within two or three years of the harvest, it works beautifully with grilled fish, such as sea bass baked in salt or seared prawns.

If there is a corner of the world where wine tastes of the sea, granite and ancient legends, that corner is undoubtedly Galicia. And it is precisely here, in the far north-western tip of Spain, that Bodegas Gallegas has its roots, a winery that for over sixty years has told the most authentic soul of this Atlantic land. It all began more than half a century ago thanks to the vision of Manuel Vázquez, who decided to bet on the unique potential of native Galician grape varieties when the market was still looking elsewhere. Today, with the same passion, the family continues to run the project, preserving that family character which is the true driving force of the company. Despite growth and international success, the spirit has remained the same: a deep respect for the rhythms of the land and the desire to bring the crisp freshness of the Atlantic Ocean into the bottle. The strength of Bodegas Gallegas lies in its ability to interpret the different nuances of Galicia through its historic estates. Owning more than 300 hectares of vineyards is not just about numbers, but about biodiversity.
