Aromas of tar and blueberries with a hint of black-olive skin. Medium to full body. Round, chewy tannins. Needs time to soften. Little lean. Better after 2020.
Soft fruity nose, sour cherry hints. Ripe juicy black berry palate, crisp, refreshing and tannic.

A Tuscan character: intense burgundy colour, on the nose bewitching hints of fruit preserved in alcohol, sweet spices and vanilla, and then on the palate it has an excellent structure and a pleasant dry finish. It passes with flying colours!
The story of Usiglian del Vescovo is one of the most compelling we have ever heard. Dating back to the Middle Ages, it was a fiefdom of the Bishops of Lucca and the subject of continuous claims by the Republic of Pisa. It then passed under the control of Florence in 1406, until in 1495 the inhabitants of Pisa occupied the castle putting the Florentine command on the run (only temporarily). And until the current ownership came in (in 2001) there were many owners who took turns in the ownership of the castle. Artisanal management, as you can imagine in a classic country house: grapes harvested by hand and wine entirely produced and bottled on site. In short, a jewel of the past.
