From a great territory we always expect excellent wines. And when the territory in question is the Langa, or rather the Alta Langa, expectations are even higher. And 'here, in fact, at the foot of' Alps, which more than a century ago were born the first Italian classic method, modeled', let it be clear, of those much more historical fields of Reims. And still today, in spite of small numbers and limited production, some of the most elegant sparkling wines in Italy are produced on the hills of the Langa. The one offered here by Terrabianca is an Altalanga DOCG, made from 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir grapes. Base wines produced by soft pressing and maturation of about 6 months with batonnage and, a part, of refinement in wood. Then, after the "presa di spuma", the wait is another 36 months for the delicate phase of aging in the bottle. A slow manual remuage follows and, at the moment of disgorgement, the wine is not dosed to enhance its natural aging. If the color is straw yellow with light greenish reflections, on the nose it reveals a herbaceous and citrus note, with the typical hint of bread crust due to aging. On the palate it is fresh and clean, well supported by a persistent but delicate bubble.
We are in Mango, in the Langhe of Alba, a production area of the great wines such as Asti, Moscato d'Asti, Barolo, Barbaresco and Alta Langa. As many as five of Piedmont's 16 great DOCGs. The Alpiste family winery is located in Terrabianca. In the countryside, traditional cultivation methods are followed with sustainable vineyard management and special care of the old vines. Treatments are only used as a last resort and always using low-impact products. In the winery, brothers Giorgio and Luigi, helped by young Federico and Andrea, produce not only Moscato d'Asti, but also Passito di Moscato, Dolcetto d'Alba, Langhe Sauvignon and Langhe Favorita. A production very focused on quality and tradition.
