Guided with confidence by the same family for four generations, the estate has always stood out for its ethical and forward-thinking approach. Drouhin was in fact among the first major producers in the region to fully embrace organic and biodynamic farming, eliminating chemicals in order to allow each label to become a faithful reflection of its land of origin. The journey of this wine begins in the Mâconnais, the southernmost area of Burgundy, historically renowned for its mild climate and striking landscapes. Here, the soil plays a crucial role thanks to its unique composition dominated by limestone marl and chalky sediments dating back to prehistoric times. This distinctive geological structure acts as a natural heat reservoir and provides the vines with the nutrients needed to develop vibrant natural acidity. The vineyards also benefit from constant ventilation, protecting the grapes and ensuring perfect aromatic ripeness balanced by a clear mineral signature. Made from 100% Chardonnay, the work of the Drouhin team focuses entirely on enhancing the purity of the fruit. The vineyards, located on ideal hillside elevations, are managed in full respect of natural biological rhythms. In the cellar, the grapes undergo a soft and extremely slow pressing to extract only the noblest and clearest juice. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, while ageing occurs mainly in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve freshness and fruit integrity. Only a very small portion of the wine briefly rests in old neutral oak barrels. This strategic touch helps stabilise the structure and soften youthful edges without ever masking the natural vibrancy of the varietal. In the glass, the wine shines with a bright straw-yellow colour crossed by green reflections that hint at its youthful character. On the nose, fragrant aromas of green apple and juicy citrus fruits are followed by delicate white flowers and a subtle tropical note reminiscent of fresh pineapple. On the palate, it reveals itself as soft, vibrant and remarkably balanced. Its pleasant mineral vein gives momentum and leads to a clean, persistent and savoury finish.
