Château La Tour Carnet
In the heart of the Haut-Médoc, a wine region north of Bordeaux, lies Château La Tour Carnet, one of the oldest and most fascinating properties in the area. This medieval castle, dating back to the 12th century, is not only a witness to history, but also a producer of wines that embody the excellence of the Bordeaux terroir. The Haut-Médoc extends along the left bank of the Gironde estuary, benefitting from a temperate oceanic climate. The soils are characterised by ‘croupes de graves’, hills of Quaternary gravel mixed with sand and clay, which offer excellent drainage and ideal conditions for growing vines. The grapes are harvested by hand, with careful bunch selection directly in the vineyard. After a second selection on vibrating tables, the grapes are de-stemmed and transferred to the vats by gravity, preserving the integrity of the berries. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature, followed by cold maceration to enhance aromatic extraction. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barriques, a significant percentage of which are new, giving complexity and ageing potential to the final product. Deep garnet red colour. The nose reveals a complex bouquet of black fruits such as blackcurrants and plums, enriched by hints of liquorice and cinnamon. The wine is distinguished by its elegance and finesse, with well-integrated tannins and a perfect balance between ripe fruit and toasted notes. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a pleasant sensation of harmony. Stored in optimal conditions, it can evolve and improve for over 15 years, developing additional aromatic complexities and greater smoothness.
Located near Bordeaux, in the heart of the Médoc region, Château La Tour Carnet is one of the oldest and most prestigious wine châteaux in the region. Its origins date back to the 12th century, and its medieval architecture, characterised by a tower built in 1120 and surrounded by a moat, bears witness to the property's rich historical past. The Château's vineyard extends over 115 hectares and is home to all the typical vines of the region, from Merlot to Cabernet Sauvignon, from Petit Verdot to Cabernet Franc. This diversity allows for the production of complex and harmonious wines, representative of the Haut-Médoc appellation. Since 2000, the property has been in the hands of Bernard Magrez, a visionary entrepreneur and sole owner of four Grands Crus Classés in Bordeaux: Château Pape Clément, Château Fombrauge, Clos Haut-Peyraguey and, of course, Château La Tour Carnet. Magrez has dedicated significant resources to restoring the château and modernising the winemaking infrastructure, while maintaining a deep respect for tradition.
