With its pot-bellied bottle and coloured capsule, this Perlas, Nuragus di Cagliari DOC proposed by Cantina sociale di Dolianova, certainly does not go unnoticed on the table. But in this case, outward appearance is not the most important part. We are, in fact, in the presence of a great wine from the territory, the result of a pure processing of Nuragus grapes, indigenous to Sardinia. Cultivated by the cooperative's members in the area surrounding the winery, this ancient local grape is not afraid of the area's sub-arid climate. Once in the cellar, the grapes are soon sent for processing, starting with a gentle pressing to obtain the must. Then, after static decantation, the clean part of the must flower is sent to fermentation at a controlled temperature for about 15 days. This is followed by a slow ageing phase on the noble lees and bottling in the spring following the harvest. Light straw yellow in colour with greenish reflections, the nose is fresh and delicately fruity. In the mouth it is delicate, with a pleasant acidulous expression. Precisely these typical characteristics make the Nuragus of Cantine Dolianova the ideal companion for shellfish, noble fish and, more generally, delicately flavoured dishes.
Founded in 1949 by thirty-five winegrowers, Cantine di Dolianova has grown and prospered over time, reaching goals that were certainly not even remotely imaginable at the time. Today there are more than three hundred members and, very importantly, many of them are now the children or grandchildren of the founding members. In a sort of generational passage, much appreciated in the wine world. Today, the Cellars can therefore count on a heritage of around 1200 hectares of their own vineyards, mostly concentrated in Parteolla, in the south of Sardinia, one of the sunniest parts of the island. Thanks to this heritage, the company's sales force is able to sell more than four million bottles a year. Numbers that, in a viticultural panorama such as that of Sardinia, make Dolianova one of the largest and most virtuous realities in the sector. The winery's production is focused (as it should be) on the island's many indigenous grape varieties. From Cannonau to Monica, Nuragus, Vermentino, Nasco, Barbera Sarda and Moscato.
