Poggio ai Ginepri Vermentino Toscana IGT 2021
  • Poggio ai Ginepri is the wine-growing area bordered by the Aurelia, the historic entrance to the Argentiera Estate. Here the soils are sandy of ancient aeolian origin and the sea is less than 800 metres from the first plants. This is the ideal habitat for the most Mediterranean of vines, the Vermentino, which grows well and yields even better only when its roots are directly on the beach. Poggio ai Ginepri, Vermentino in purity, is the result of a super-soft processing of the grapes that begins with a soft pressing phase, followed by fermentation at a low temperature. At the end of processing, the wine is then left to mature for a certain period in contact with its fine lees in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Intense straw yellow in colour, the nose is immediately pleasantly fresh, with fruity aromas reminiscent of pear, banana and apricot. On the palate, however, floral notes of lavender and white flowers, as well as hints of spices and herbs. Fresh and pleasant, it is a well-balanced white, characterised by a long, savoury finish. It is the aperitif white par excellence. Try it with a simple spaghetti with seafood or a grill of fresh fish. Absolutely unforgettable.

Tenuta Argentiera was established in 1997. The starting nucleus is Podere Adua, dating back to the early 20th century, the time of the Maremma land reclamation. The original 6 hectares were used to produce Morellino di Scansano, and only later was the new wine-making cellar built. Then, in 2001, the property was expanded thanks to the purchase of another farm, Keeling, located in a hilly area in the municipality of Scansano. Today, the company can count on a total of 20 hectares of productive land included in the Morellino DOCG. The vineyards of Podere Adua are located at sea level, a few kilometres from the Tyrrhenian coast. The situation is quite different for the Keeling estate, which is located at a higher altitude, in the hills. Since 2009, the entire estate has been run according to the dictates of organic farming, with the aim of seeking a balance between the plant and the surrounding environment.
