The Villa Russiz estate is located in Capriva del Friuli, in a setting where viticulture is intertwined with a unique philanthropic legacy. Founded in 1868 by Count Theodor de La Tour and his wife Elvine Ritter von Zahony, the winery has always dedicated part of its proceeds to supporting a children’s home. Villa Russiz cultivates its Malvasia vineyards with excellent exposure, ensuring even and rich ripening. In the cellar, the process begins with gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks at strictly controlled temperature. The wine then rests on its lees for at least six months. This “sur lie” ageing adds body and stabilises the grape’s natural aromas, preventing them from fading too quickly. In the glass, the colour is a pale, almost bright straw yellow with reflections that tend towards platinum. On the nose, it opens with a range of clean aromas: white pepper, fresh sage and a hint of white-fleshed fruit such as flat peach stand out. On the palate, it is a burst of energy. The freshness is immediate, quickly joined by an almost buttery sensation and a saline trail that recalls sea air. It is a wine that delivers great satisfaction without ever feeling heavy. Food pairings are the most exciting part. Its natural spiciness makes this Malvasia impeccable with Asian cuisine, such as quality sushi or tempura prawns. It also works beautifully with traditional Friulian dishes like herb cjarsons or sea bass baked in salt.

After her husband’s death, the countess decided to turn the estate into a foundation to help disadvantaged children, creating an institution that is still active today and supported by wine sales. Buying a bottle of Villa Russiz is therefore not just a pleasure for the palate, but a gesture that concretely supports a humanitarian mission. In the vineyard, work is carried out with deep respect for the environment, while in the cellar the focus is on purity. No artifice, only elegance. The winery’s white wines are renowned for their longevity and structure: from Sauvignon to Friulano, through Pinot Bianco, each sip tells the story of the freshness of the Friulian hills.
