Alastro is a product of authentic Sicily, in the Lago Arancio area. We are in Sambuca di Sicilia, among hills rising between 200 and 250 metres above sea level, breathing in the breeze from the Strait of Sicily. The soil, rich in limestone pebbles and traces of organic matter, reflects the sun during the day and retains freshness at night, producing savoury, aromatic grapes. The artificial lake, created in the 1950s, mitigates the summer heat and guarantees water even in the driest seasons. Alastro is a white wine made from 70% Grecanico and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, where the former provides structure and a nice salty vein, while the latter contributes a herbaceous-citrus touch that brightens the bouquet. The grapes are harvested in two stages - at the end of August for the Sauvignon and at the end of September for the Grecanico - and are destemmed, gently pressed and fermented at low temperatures. The wine then remains on its fine lees in steel for six months, with weekly bâtonnage to increase its creaminess and complexity without losing momentum. In the glass, it boasts a bright straw yellow colour. The nose plays with cedar, white melon and wild flowers, enriched by hints of pear and boxwood. The palate is vibrant yet velvety. The citrus freshness is accompanied by an almost silky caress of white peach. A pleasant salty finish rounds it all off. The finish is clean, with a return of Mediterranean herbs. At the table, it is a star player with a warm seafood salad, asparagus risotto and even chicken curry, for lovers of Oriental cuisine.

From 2022, the entire range will be certified organic. In addition, Planeta adheres to the SOStain protocol, the first sustainability standard designed for Sicilian viticulture. The “Planeta Terra” project goes even further: lighter bottles produced 100% on the island, energy from renewable sources, reforestation of Mediterranean scrub and permanent vegetation cover between the rows.
