    Apremont Vin de Savoie AOP 2019
  • Philippe Viallet surprises us once again with a product of his land. This Savoy white comes from 100% processing of Jacquère grapes, a white variety found primarily in this part of France, just a few miles with the Italian border, at the foot of the Alpine peaks. A particularly vigorous grape variety, locally it is used to produce dry, lightly perfumed wines that are refreshing and delicately aromatic. Just as in this case. Les Flocons comes from grapes harvested by hand on steep vineyards with excellent southern exposure to ensure a mild microclimate, perfect to ripen grapes. Traditional white vinification, with temperature control in steel tanks, this "Savoyard" white has a beautiful straw yellow color and lively aromas of banana, pear and flint. Excellent as an aperitif, it goes well with seafood. Locally, however, it is also offered with fondue, helping to balance the sweet and fatty feel of the cheese.

    We are in a very special, and picturesque, corner of France. We are in Savoy, southern border with Italy. Here, in Apremont, 10 km from Chambery, in 1966 Marcel and Yvonne Viallet, who previously worked in a nursery, bought the "Clos Réservé" vineyard and began their adventure in the world of wine. In 1982, after a serious accident, Marcel Viallet handed the activity over to his eldest son, Pierre who was joined in 1984, after finishing his studies in Beaune, by their second son, Philippe. This renewed team gives birth to what will take the name Maison Philippe Viallet, specializing initially in the sale of local Savoy wines. Shortly thereafter, however, an S.I.C.A., Société Intérêt Commun Agricole, called "Fruitière des Vignerons des Terroirs de Savoie," was born in 1998, a kind of cooperative that now has 71 winegrowers passionately working some 300 hectares of vines. Maison Philippe Viallet is now engaged in the promotion and marketing of wines from Savoie, Jura, Bugey, Provence and even labels from nearby Corsica.
