Petite Arvine Valle d'Aosta DOP 2023
  • The Aosta Valley is known for the great variety of autochthonous vines, therefore typical, that are cultivated. Many vineyards grow on the slopes of the mountains and climb up to the heights. They grow and develop thanks to the perfect exposure and a touch of madness from local producers who know how to counteract the cold of their region by using traditional growing techniques. Among the most interesting vines in the Valley is this Petite Arvine, which is indigenous and characterized by a rather late ripening that allows it to remain on the vine for longer and enjoy the warmth of the sun for many weeks. Vinified in stainless steel at low temperature, it is a beautiful, lively straw yellow colour. The nose teases especially for the obvious notes of flowers and sweet apple. A hint of sweet plum and citrus complete the picture. In the mouth, the most evident characteristic of this vine is the savoury and mineral note, easily recognisable from the first sip. Overall it is a well balanced and enjoyable wine. An ideal bottle for great dinners with friends, in the mountains... but also at the seaside.

Viticulture in Val d’Aosta is clearly not made up of large numbers and wines produced in large quantities. It is a viticulture made of small pearls and great excellences. Among the founding fathers of quality viticulture in this remote corner of Italy is undoubtedly Costantino Charrère, of Les Cretes. In fact, it is mainly thanks to him that, from one moment to the next, enthusiasts from all over the world became aware of the great potential of the mountain viticulture practiced at the foot of Mont Blanc. Les Cretes, founded in 1989, is one of the symbol companies of the region, dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the many native vines of Valle d'Aosta: from Petit Rouge to Fumin and Petite Arvine. All this with a deep respect for the environment and its protection that led them first to obtain organic certification and then even to embrace the biodynamic philosophy. The result is pure and elegant wines, the fruit of a modern viticulture aimed at exalting what nature has created. Every single wine from Les Cretes, whether white, red or sparkling, expresses all the passion for the territory and the richness of the terroir of the high mountains. Each one unique. All simply extraordinary.
