Valle D'Aosta DOP Chardonnay - Les Cretes

There is no grape variety more adaptable than Chardonnay. Whether the climate is hot or cold, he is still able to create extraordinary wines. Also in Valle d'Aosta, for example, Les Cretes offers a decidedly interesting one. savoury, fresh and elegant. In other words, a perfect mountain wine that comes from grapes that ripen in an environment characterized by large temperature swings between day and night. This condition enriches its aromatic profile. The result is a wine characterized by a comforting straw yellow colour with greenish reflections, limpid and crystalline. The nose is surprising for the richness of its bouquet, particularly rich and elegant. There are notes of fresh fruit and flowers. Then a hint of citrus and an obvious memory of honey. In the mouth, finally, it is fresh and dry. You can find the same fragrant notes perceived by the nose, always quite intense but above all very persistent. A really interesting wine. One to try.

Viticulture in Val d’Aosta is clearly not made up of large numbers and wines produced in large quantities. It is a viticulture made of small pearls and great excellences. Among the founding fathers of quality viticulture in this remote corner of Italy is undoubtedly Costantino Charrère, of Les Cretes. In fact, it is mainly thanks to him that, from one moment to the next, enthusiasts from all over the world became aware of the great potential of the mountain viticulture practiced at the foot of Mont Blanc. Les Cretes, founded in 1989, is one of the symbol companies of the region, dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the many native vines of Valle d'Aosta: from Petit Rouge to Fumin and Petite Arvine. All this with a deep respect for the environment and its protection that led them first to obtain organic certification and then even to embrace the biodynamic philosophy. The result is pure and elegant wines, the fruit of a modern viticulture aimed at exalting what nature has created. Every single wine from Les Cretes, whether white, red or sparkling, expresses all the passion for the territory and the richness of the terroir of the high mountains. Each one unique. All simply extraordinary.

A very floral chardonnay that gives a ton of fresh herbs, citrus, peonies and honeysuckle. The phenolics are generous and are added to by the fleshy stone fruit. Nevertheless, contrasting acidity pulls this through nicely to a tightly wound finish. Drink now.
