    • DIEGO PRESSENDA S.S.A. Località Sant'Anna 98 - 12065 Monforte d'Alba (CN)

    Chardonnay Langhe DOC 2025
    • Forget the stereotype that the Langhe are exclusively the land of great, austere and structured red wines. This white wine is proof that the region has much more to offer. Diego Pressenda’s Chardonnay demonstrates how the clay and limestone soils of Monforte d'Alba can deliver outstanding results even with white grape varieties. In the picturesque hamlet of Sant'Anna, the vineyards reach elevations close to 500 metres above sea level. This location provides excellent day-to-night temperature variation and constant ventilation, keeping humidity at bay. The pale, limestone-rich soils typical of this specific area of the Langhe force the vines to root deeply, giving the grapes an appealing mineral savouriness and a character that is direct, proud and uncompromising. Made from 100% Chardonnay, this interpretation of the Burgundian grape focuses on finesse rather than opulence. The grapes are gently pressed immediately after hand harvesting. Alcoholic fermentation takes place entirely in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The wine then rests for several months on its fine lees in stainless steel before bottling. This brief contact with the lees adds texture and complexity without the use of oak. Pale straw-yellow in colour with greenish highlights that reveal its youth, the nose opens with delicate aromas of pear and white flowers, accompanied by subtle and refreshing hints of exotic fruit. On the palate it offers pleasing fullness and structure, balanced by refreshing acidity and a marked mineral character. The finish is long, clean and persistent. It pairs beautifully with mixed fried seafood, where its acidity perfectly refreshes the palate, but it is equally at home alongside seafood risotto or traditional Piedmontese tajarin with butter and sage. A simple yet highly effective regional pairing.

The Langhe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are famous throughout the world for their rolling vineyard-covered landscapes and their great age-worthy red wines. To truly understand the most authentic and artisanal soul of this territory, however, one must leave the main roads and head towards Monforte d’Alba, specifically the hamlet of Perno. This is where the heart of Diego Pressenda winery beats. Everything began in the mid-1970s when Diego Pressenda and his wife Silvia, driven by a deep love for their homeland, decided to invest their future among these hills. It was a courageous choice built on hard manual work and old-fashioned dedication. Over the years, that dream grew into a successful family-run estate. Today, the next generation has joined the business: Francesca, Beatrice and Alessandro work alongside their parents, bringing fresh energy and new ideas. In this small wine atelier, every bottle is the result of a pact of honour between people and nature. Diego Pressenda’s philosophy is based on profound respect for the land and sustainable vineyard management.
