      "Mezzapezza" Primitivo Salento IGP 2022
    • Its label recalls the silhouette of buildings typical of the Salento area. And, in the background, a coloured ball recalling the setting sun. Really beautiful. It is called Mezza Pezza and it is a Primitivo Salento IGP proposed by Masseria Trullo di Pezza. Made from 100% Primitivo grapes from the vineyards of Lizzano, in the province of Taranto, this fresh Salento wine is made in stainless steel. Certified organic wine, in the glass it has a beautiful bright ruby red colour with purple reflections. The nose reveals a "crunchy" intensity, with fruity and decisive scents of morello cherry, plum and a whiff of tobacco. In the mouth, it is very pleasant, round and agile, with a nice fruity finish. A simple but not banal wine, this Apulian red goes well with first courses with meat sauces. But also mature cheeses and grilled meats. Difficult to put it to the test.

      Trullo di Pezza can now count on about 32 hectares of vineyards, distributed in the vicinity of the Torricella winery, as well as in the territories of Maruggio, Lizzano and Manduria. We are in the province of Taranto, in the heart of green Apulia. It is no coincidence that the region's main grape variety, Primitivo, accounts for the largest area of production. But there is also room for Negroamaro, Fiano, Aglianico and Susumaniello. The vines take root in the much-vaunted 'red earth' of Salento, on a plateau dotted with centuries-old olive trees, not far from the sea. Here winters are mild and summers decidedly hot. The vineyard is tended organically, using natural products and, only in cases of extreme drought, emergency irrigation is used. The production heart of Trullo di Pezza is located in the farm of the same name. Here the entire winemaking process takes place outdoors, in an area of two thousand square metres, well harmonised with the surrounding greenery.
