Luce Toscana IGT 2020

Luce della Vite is the Montalcino estate of the Frescobaldi family. It is said of it "When the sun rises in the east every day, it gives life to the Luce vineyards that cover the slopes south-west of the village of Montalcino. A sparsely populated area, surrounded by wild nature and rich in biodiversity'. And Luce is its most representative wine, the first to be produced, in Montalcino, from a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. Precisely for this reason it does not belong to the DOCG of Brunello but is labelled Toscana IGT. We are, however, in the presence of one of the most loved Tuscan reds in the world. Awarded and re-awarded every year by the most severe international wine critics. The 2019 vintage, in particular, proved to be late and balanced. With a cold and sunny winter, a spring characterised by low average temperatures and high rainfall, resulting in a lack of light which led to a slight delay in the vine's growth cycle. The season then continued with a hot summer and a mild September that allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and regularly. The resulting wines have good structure and balance, power and great ageing potential. Like this Luce 2019, which has a beautiful, intense ruby red colour in the glass. The nose is striking for its floral scents of violets and roses, accompanied by red fruits of raspberries and sweet spices. In the mouth, however, it is balanced and elegant, with an almost creamy texture, supported by silky and well-integrated tannins. The finish is particularly persistent and lingers on spicy notes.
