The stated aim was to create a new and innovative wine. A young, modern and casual white wine. This is how Hans Rottensteiner arrived at the creation of Kitz, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT Bianco, a blend of grapes well-suited to their terroir and capable of creating a pleasantly aromatic and drinkable wine. 30% Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio, 20% Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco, this Kitz is not only modern in its glass but also in its appearance. The name, a small curiosity, comes from the German word used to indicate the ibex cub, the animal featured in the winery's herald. Vinified only in steel, with strict temperature control, to best preserve the freshness of the initial fruit. After vinification, it is matured, again in steel, for a few months before bottling. Fresh, fruity and smooth, Kitz is the wine to open during a cheerful aperitif with friends, but it is also perfect to accompany simple fish dishes. Excellent, for example, with a rich grill or spaghetti allo scoglio.
Never mind that the name is clearly of German origin. The Hans Rottensteiner winery is 100% South Tyrolean and has been deeply rooted in the region since it was founded back in 1530. A family business, the winery has been run by several generations of winegrowers. Today, Hannes is the winemaker, leaving his father Anton in charge of the vineyard. The estate is located near Bolzano, in an impressive alpine valley. Rows of grapes, fruit trees and ancient farms. The Rottensteiner family cultivates mainly indigenous grapes, such as Schiava and Lagrein. Almost ten hectares of their own land, not a few for the area, are cultivated with passion and full respect for nature and the environment, with another 75 hectares from trusted local growers. And if the grapes are of the highest quality, in the cellar the most modern wine-making technologies do the rest. The wines of this beautiful South Tyrolean winery are here to be tried.
