"Grattamacco" Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC 2020
  • Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC Grattamacco is a wine with great personality that is the result of a perfect combination of Tuscany's Mediterranean climate and the passion of expert winegrowers. The grapes ripen on clay-limestone soils with a south-westerly exposure and enjoy a mild climate characterised by intense luminosity and good temperature fluctuations. These optimal climatic conditions, combined with sea breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea, create an ideal microclimate for growing high-quality grapes. The heart of this wine is a blend of Merlot and Sangiovese grapes, enriched by small percentages of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each grape variety brings its own characteristics, creating a complex and enveloping harmony of flavours and aromas. Merlot, the dominant grape variety, gives the wine softness and elegance, while Sangiovese gives freshness and minerality. The Cabernets, finally, complete the picture with spicy notes and structure. Production follows the principles of sustainable viticulture, with full respect for the environment and the land. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected to ensure maximum quality. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in open oak vats, with manual punching-down that favours a gentle extraction of the noble tannins. The wine then matures for 18 months in barriques, acquiring complexity and elegance. Garnet red, the nose offers an explosion of intense aromas. Fruity notes of ripe cherry and blackberry intertwine with balsamic hints of Mediterranean scrub and sweet spices. In the mouth, the wine envelops with its velvety softness, allowing ample minerality and a voluminous and elegant tannic texture to emerge. The persistence is remarkable, with a fresh finish that heralds a long evolution in the bottle. Perfect with savoury red meat dishes, game and mature cheeses.

The Grattamacco wine cellar is located between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, in an area of enchanting beauty, with a panoramic view of the Tuscan coast. Since 2002 it has been part of the ColleMassari Wine Estates group, which belongs to the Bertarelli family, although the estate dates back to 1977. The vineyards are located at an altitude of about 100-200 metres above sea level, in a protected position in the hilly area of Bolgheri. The area enjoys a dry climate with considerable temperature fluctuations, which makes it possible to cultivate not only French grapes, but also Sangiovese and Vermentino.
