Refoscone Venezia Giulia IGT 2019 - Forchir

Although the word 'Refoscone' may sound made up, in reality it is a typical grape variety of the Friuli region. It obviously belongs to the Refoschi family, which has been present in the north-east of Italy since ancient times. There are documentary traces of it as far back as 1700, with various synonyms. In the Codroipo vineyard, Forchir wanted to produce it and name it as it was used many years ago. With 6,000 vines per hectare trained on the guyot system, when the time is right for harvesting, the only fruiting vine is cut, leaving its 5 or 6 bunches to dry in the sun for another two weeks. In the cellar, processing begins with a maceration phase on the skins for 10 days. At the end of processing, the wine matures in large casks until the following summer. In the bottle, it is finished without any stabilising or filtering treatment, to allow the tannins and tartrates to retain all their intensity and aroma. An important wine, it should be paired with savoury dishes. The producers recommend pairing it with a nice slice of mature Montasio di malga cheese.

As can be seen from bottling register No. 046, Forchir was historically one of the first bottlers in Friuli. Today, after 4 generations of unaltered passion, the company is committed to an oenological project that combines tradition with the modern evolution of technique and taste. It can count on 230 hectares of vineyards located in Camino al Tagliamento, in the Udine area, and in Spilimbergo, in the Pordenone area. The new winery is avant-garde, both in terms of architecture and environmental sustainability. It is totally carbon free and zero-emission. Thanks to the geothermal and photovoltaic systems that guarantee total energy self-sufficiency. In the countryside, the cultivation of the vineyards has a low environmental impact, with full respect for nature.
